Like with many complex instruments, there are multiple ways to solve certain problems and to measure the required inputs. Combining the various functions leads to a multitude of advanced uses.
Inch Scale on the Telemeter
Wndsn Telemeters with an inch scale (models 2021 and later) can be used as a coordinate scale for the ubiquitous 7.5° USGS topo maps. On these 1:24k maps, 1 inch equals 2,000 ft.

Standard U.S. maps have a scale of 1:24,000 since 1" = 2,000' and 1:62,500 which is close to 1" = 1 mile. The real inches/mile is 63,360, but 62,500 gets you close, and 62,500 × 16 = 1 million, or ¼ of a ¼ quad.
